It's like Christmas...in December!
Since Mr. Pink and the Nippers have gone to BC a week before me, leaving my sorry ass in the desolate winter wasteland known as Our Nation's Capital, I have completed the following:

  • bought a 6 ft aluminum ladder to change a light bulb
  • written three chapters of the new original fic (what can I say?  It's bright, it's shiny)
  • watched incessant repeats of SYTYCD-C, because, yes, Nico Archambault does own my soul
  • missed three days of work because of stupid snow and a transit strike (combined with present insane Canadian politics, it's really a sign of the impending Apocalypse)
  • watched Dr. Phil because I am that lonesome without the Pinks
  • seared some scallops and served them up with a lovely chardonnay only to eat in front of my new BFF, the TV.

But, most of all...I HAVE A CHRISTMAS PRESENT FOR YOU ALL (if, of course, you want it)

Thanks to the amazing skills of [info]morgandawn and [info]smilla02 , I can now point you in the direction of my web site where you can download volumes 1-3 of Single White, Double Yellow: The Red Series.  That's a shitload of re-edited, reformatted fics, with scans of handwritten notes and maps, photos, a brand spanking-new foreword, and an amazing set of covers that [info]smilla02 made for me because she is truly amazing.  Morgan did a fantastic job of not only putting up with my constant barrage of 'change this, no wait, I liked it better the way it was before!', but she made the whole project look easy.  Originally, we bound the volumes and offered them via Sweet Charity, but now you can enjoy the fruits of all our labours.  Ho-ho-ho.  Note: the PDFs are formatted for easy-printing on standard letter (8.5 x 11).

It's only a week before I'll see them all, but it's been so QUIET around here -- so I've invited over all the neighbourhood chicas for a wine and cheese tomorrow. Because I'm no good whatsoever at being quietly alone.

I think the extras make it. It's funny, because until morgan made these for me, I'd never held 99% of the fic in my hands -- I never print up, I always edit on screen. Scary. But so nice to have them.

HEY!

I looked at your LJ last night and wanted to say hi but then got too tired to actually read properly! How are things with you my dear?

We have a fuckofalot of snow and I hate it, but I live in the snow capital, so I should probably just get used to it.

I like to keep the boys unhappy. Look at my lj sub-name: all hurt, no comfort. I never claimed to be about rainbows and puppies.

The scallops were amazing, with a butter-shallot-wine sauce. I believe in cooking well, even when I'm alone. And if you don't have a nice meal, then you have no excuse for that glass of wine, right?

I hear you're getting snow over there -- Professor Pink and the Kniblets circled Nanaimo for a while yesterday, and then were sent back to Vancouver, only to take the Duke Point ferry.

Don't get busted at work, darling -- I'm sure they'd be really understanding.

Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god.
THANK YOU SO SO SO SO MUCH.
That's really fantastically generous of you. I was of a mind to bid for this on Sweet Charity but I had less than no money in my bank account at the time (and in NZ dollars which are like, little tiny half dollars) and so I didn't. But boy, did I covet.

This is such a brilliant Christmas present. Honestly, I just.... *flails*. Without hyperbole I can't think of many surprise gifts that I would like more.

I'm delighted. Thank you so much... and Merry Christmas. :)

God, you're down in NZ? Professor Pink is a reformed NZer. He's never taken me, but it was such a delight to watch LotR with him, because he kept yelling at the screen about locations. And some of the extras in the background. He spotted at least 3 people he knew. He said that NZ a small place and if you know one actor or model, you pretty much know them all.

Merry Christmas to you too, sweetheart -- happy reading!

I suspect you might have heard me cheer all the way from the UK to Canada. Thank you for SWDY. I will download them just as soon as I finish this note. I enjoyed them ihn their original form, but this will go straight into the *Library* folder.

I really like and admire your writing. You have everything I love in a story - humour, jeopardy, angst, strong and character-driven fast-paced plottiness, - and 100 per cent character-accuracy. IMHO no one writes the Supernatural people quite as well as you do, and I've read a hell of a lot in all Spn genres. I can *see and hear* every moment of your stories, like a movie screen in my head.

I wish you all good luck with your original fic as well. Please keep us posted, especially when [*not* if] it's published. Discerning readers will want to know.

Thank you so much -- I've been so absent lately, it was hard to show my face. Now I can again, so that's something.

The original fic is coming along well -- it's re-using New Deal research and setting, but with new characters -- who I really like writing. A ghost story, a family story. Lots of swearing, mostly in French (oh, don't ask).

Merry Christmas, my dear.

I'm sorry to hear that life's crappy for you right now, darling. I hope that it improves and that you weather it more or less intact. However, I like your scale.

On a scale of Sam to Dean, where would you rate your crappiness, 1 being Sam and 10 being Dean?

The PDFs are pretty damn nice, aren't they? So pretty and shiny. I'm glad that you liked the foreword, it was great looking over the stuff as a whole and then to try to figure out what the hell I was trying to say with it all.

This is absolutely terrific. [info]morgandawn and [info]smilla02 have done a fantastic job of formatting and cover arting and, wow, what a great looking anthology they've put together.

I feel kind of like a doofus for asking this, since you all have already done so much, but have you thought about putting these up on Cafepress? You've already done all of the hard stuff, formatting wise, and printing over there does save a couple few trees (which is an argument that feels vaguely ironic? or topical? given Red;-). Plus that means the internetz at large could order nifty copies to put on our bookshelves, for printing and shipping costs only, of course.

But whether or no, this is absolutely and utterly fan-freaking-tastic. A ginormous thanks to you all for putting this together.

Hey, darlin' -- I'm so glad you like them. As I've said, most of the hard work was done by MD and Smillie, I just sat back and smiled.

As for your question: Will you be offering your fan fiction through self-publishing sites?

My answer: I am not thinking about making the volumes available in any way other than how I've done it and here's why... Self-publishing sites like Cafe Press have policies against selling fan fiction through their websites. Some fans go the amateur/non-profit route and offer their fan fiction through fanzine dealers - in fact this is longstanding tradition in fandom which is still ongoing. At this point, I am only comfortable offering my fan fiction free and on-line but will certainly post something if this changes.

Believe me, I've thought about this long and hard, and this stuff I write? It's all free, free, free. What you choose to do with a PDF for your own personal use is your business.

*smiles, sits back, wonders where the hell dinner is.*

Oh wow!!! Thank you so much for these!! To morgandawn and smilla02 as well! I've printed out most of your stories already, but they are all very haphazardly put together. Good enough to lie in bed and read - but they aren't going to last for long. I'm definitely going to get these printed and bound professionally, something I've pondered getting done for a while. Now with all this it'll be no problemo!

What a fabulous Christmas pressie. :o) Printed fanfic is the best thing to take on holiday. Not only because so much of it is such high quality reading, but it helps to prevent withdrawal from the boys *grins*
