Had a fantastic time at the Memorabilia exhibition at Birmingham NEC today! I got to hug Mitch Pileggi, who's very tall, Chris Gauthier, who's very sweet, Mark Pellegrino, who's very firm, and Rob Benedict, who's very - um - Chuck.
I have to say, all four of the guests were fabulous. I couldn't afford autographs as well as photographs (well I couldn't really afford photographs either), so didn't get to speak to them for very long, but I got eye contact from all four of them, and Mark was so jet lagged, but still managed to last the day with a smile, despite nearly falling asleep at the autograph table this morning! (Mr. Padalecki should perhaps take note!)
The atmosphere was a lot more relaxed than Asylum - we could take photos of the stars signing - and Rob actually waved at us while we were taking them! He's a real sweetie. Just wanted to pick him up, put him in my pocket and take him home. I suspect someone might have objected, however.
Hopefully I'll have some pictures up tomorrow when I'm more awake.
There were some interesting non-SN guests there too. Tony Todd was going out of his way to make sure everyone got photos with him, although Mary McDonnell wasn't at all happy about people snapping pictures of her sitting at the autograph table and kept putting her hand in front of her face. I didn't expect that from her, so it was a bit of a disappointment. Have to say, Enterprise's Anthony Montgomery? Yeah, I could have happily taken him home with me too. Although I don't think he'd have fitted in my other pocket.
Hadn't expected Craig Charles and Chloe Annett from Red Dwarf to be there, so that was a nice surprise! I would probably have walked past Jason Mewes and not known it was him if he hadn't been standing in front of a Dogma poster. And I even got to see Tom Felton and Warwick Davis in the far distance!
Dawn got her picture taken in the Back to the Future DeLorean, and with Darth Vader, some storm troopers, a fake David Tennant, several Daleks, the Predator and one of those horrible scarecrow things from Doctor Who. We also met Captain Jack Sparrow and Neo from the Matrix. A good day was had by all.
But seriously. FOUR POUNDS for a SANDWICH?????

I could waste some words on the TV I've caught up on, but you know, I just can't be bothered right now. I'm adopting an aggresive whatever strategy with Supernatural; I'm still bored by Flash Forward; V got slightly more interesting in the third episode but I'm still not sold; and I still like Fringe and White Collar.
On a more fun note,
eruthros pointed out some aweome Dear Yuletide letters. I have been collecting these too so besides the ones noted there and in comments, here are a few I am particularly hoping for. Besides the lovely people who requested the same fandoms I did, I also liked whole letters for Paul Beatty-White Boy Shuffle, Janelle Monae: Metropolis The Chase Suite, and Paul Simon-Graceland; RPF hip hop, Middleman, Leverage, and Ferris Bueller; and
Fringe, Scooby Doo and V (1984).
( tons of other awesome prompts for Aliens v. Predator, Flash Forward, Real Genius, Wonder Woman, Children of Men, Dark is Rising, Like Water for Chocolate, Glee, Bring it on, Thelma and Louise, Victor/Victoria, 1001 Nights, Motherlover, Middleman, Thin Man, Strictly Ballroom, Kill Bill, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Roman Holiday and more (spoilers and lack of warnings). I may have gotten carried away )

Damn you, Fox News! My hatred of you is no longer pure and unvarnished! Why must you complicate the picture by doing really great articles on cookbooks I adore? They even have a cute tagline on the main food and drink page, where the interview is the headline feature: "sometimes athletic supporters need a little support too."
WHY OH WHY?
(For the record, Thursday's stuffing, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, corn pudding, and mashed potato recipes all come from this book.)

Okay, this is the plan for hiatus:
1.
yuletide
2. Broken Toys
3. the 5.10 story I'm working on right now (I keep having to stop because it's making me cry! That never happens to me when I write!)
4. The Dean-Michael dream story
5. Drought Conditions (casefile)
6. Nothing but Winter in my Cup (casefile)
7. the Dean/Sam/Pam story
That's quite a lot, considering November and December are usually the time of my fannish malaise.
This song is not helping with the crying, iTunes!
Now, though, I think I am going to bake a cake.

Just a drive-by post to note that I'm still working on my SPN review. It's kinda extra hard this week because I keep on hitting that rewind button and crying. I don't think I've cried this hard since NRftW. Dear BE: You did something really right when you make me remind myself that this is just a TV show, these characters are not real people. And still I feel gutted.
So I'm still avoiding looking around on the Flist to read other thoughts yet, because... my mind, she is blown to bitty bits and I'd like to get my review finished before I check out other posts and get even more distracted. Damn you, Edlund and Kripke. I mean that as a compliment. Okay, to ... well, make myself cry some more.

SPN, Sam/Dean, Rating: NC-17
Summary:“Have I ever told you how much it turns me on when you play with your knives?” Dean broke the silence, voice low and heated.
Warnings: Slash, incest, knife and blood!kink, rough sex.
This is bottom!Dean so you know it's got to be freakin HOT for me to rec it.

SPN, Sam/Castiel, Rating: PG-13
Summary:Dean gives Castiel all his lame pick-up lines and Castiel keeps trying to use them on Sam
This fic is one of the reasons I've just recently discovered a love for Sam/Castiel. Cracktastically adorable.
So I've just recently discovered Jake&Amir from College Humor and I have to say that I am head over heels for these boys. HOMGGGGG How can two boys be so schmooptastically, amazingly funny? (yes yes yes I realize the obvious answer to that question) You guys need to go and watch EVERYTHING by them.

Jake&Amir, Jake/Amir, Rating: PG
Summary:But then there's Amir. Amir, who swallowed some dice and got them thrown out of the casino.
Like most people in SPN fandom, I've got a thing for co-dependent boys. This really really showcases that.

Jake&Amir, Jake/Amir, Rating: G
Summary:It's like 1PM at the least and Amir feels like he's worked like ninety days by now.
Perfect Amir voice. His idolization and affection for Jake really comes through in this. (though maybe obsession is a better word than affection...)
IF ANYONE KNOWS WHERE I CAN FIND MORE JAKE&AMIR FIC, TELLMETELLMETELLMETELLMETELLME BECAUSE I THINK I KIND OF NEED IT LIKE AIR (AND LIKE I NEED A JAKE&AMIR ICON)

There's just one more bug I wish I could fix for our next deploy, but I can't fix it because I can't reproduce it locally. Which is driving me NUTS. It's the problem with single chapter works appearing as 1/? when you post them; it happens consistently on our test deployment and not at all on my local machine, even when posting from the same browser with the exact same data. The code is the same, the data is the same, the html source is the same - something must be different, but I can't figure out what.
It also only happens when you're posting something new, which is good in that it means you can fix it by editing, but further adds to my confusion, because it's the same form. Hmph.
( code changes we are currently testing )

So, I was looking at old Stargate: Atlantis episodes, with the idea that I might actually do some vidding at some point (what? It could happen). And I was amused to see, as the Genii prepare to invade Atlantis, one of the poor doomed soldiers was Glee's Finn Hudson.
Keep it together, Finn! Think of the mailman! Perhaps that mission would've been more successful if only the Genii had better Autotune technology.
IMDB says he was also in a couple of my other old shows, though I don't particularly remember him as a poor doomed camper on Supernatural, or on Smallville as "Frat Cowboy."
