Wayward: A Supernatural Fandom Documentary Indigogo Campaign

Sep. 11th, 2015 | 01:30 pm

You know how sometimes something comes into your inbox and you think to yourself, "Hmmm. How did they KNOW? How did this random someone cross-posting to a big group know that this was of actual INTEREST to me?"

So just a few minutes ago, I get an email from a neighbourhood parent saying their grown-up kid is in screenwriting school and is crowd-sourcing funding to make a documentary...about Supernatural fans. Really? Really? So cool!

She doesn't need a huge amount of money. Honestly, if anyone who's read and enjoyed Red or any of my other writing projects wants to see this get off the ground, or wants to find out more, or who wants to just stay in touch with regards to the project, have a look here.

Could be interesting, yes? I'm just kind of...surprised! Also, even if you can't give, spread the word around.

headspace: terrified

Finally, holding the Advanced Review Copy of Deadroads in my hot little hands. I am utterly terrified.

I've blogged about it here, if you care to read more AND SEE THE AWESOME COVER (or just play along with Panic Bingo at home).  E-version should be available March 15 and the actual bookity book book on April 1. This year, yes?

Also, I would be watching Justified, except FX Canada forces me to do illegal things.

Bloggity blog blog

Jun. 23rd, 2013 | 01:38 pm

Hi -- blogged over here: http://robinriopelle.blogspot.ca/

Not really much of any News news, if you know what I mean, but I'm writing again, so that's good. Waiting. Always with the waiting. Weather's making me feel like a consumptive heroine from a Victorian novel. Traveling a lot, which is great, but time-consuming.

How's tricks?

Home, and Not

Apr. 15th, 2013 | 10:16 am

I don't know how you folks all feel about visiting your parents (if indeed, you have parents to visit, still living, or still spoken to, or maybe a place where you feel close to your parents when they've left this earth), but my visits are sometimes fraught -- with old gripes, old wounds, old patterns that just won't be. But age can be a great window for change.

I'm in Victoria for my birthday, and I fully realize that this may be my last one with my dad, especially (or not, anything can happen). It's actually pretty great. He sleeps a lot, and is only mobile with a new electric wheelchair that must make him feel like Mario Andretti, it's so powerful. Yesterday, with the blessing of an hour or two of real sunshine, my dad and I took a spin round their massive garden (they have 5 acres, all rhododendrons). This was always a fond memory, touring the garden with Dad. He's an acknowledged rhodo expert, and the garden, while it has seen better days, still shows it's a labour of love. Nowadays, my dad isn't as vocal, his mind isn't as sharp, and he doesn't always remember the words, but yesterday he was in good form and it was a gift, such a gift, to be able to take a slow tour, and for him to tell me names and little stories about who hybridized them, and what needed doing next.

Things that once seemed vitally important to argue about now don't really seem like the point. The topics are still important, of course--women's rights, the place of a traditional education, politics, for example--but they don't seem worth the effort with Dad, or Mum. There are more important things to talk about: how did that bowl come into the family, what nephew T. said last week, where on earth will NitGirl go to university?

On this, the day of my birth, I acknowledge the gift that my birthmother gave me--life--and I also acknowledge the depth of love the family of my raising gave me. Thanks, everyone.

OMG. Lookout! Roller Coaster!

Apr. 12th, 2013 | 05:06 pm

I tell ya, it's like a friggin' roller coaster, trying to get published.

More details over at robin_riopelle's blog, but the long and the short of it is that it looks like things might not have been quite so dire as I initially feared.

And also, I'm in Victoria looking after the darling Pink Wrinklies, and trying to help them organize their 300-year-old closets. It's like an episode of Hoarders, except with Scottish people.

headspace: gah

That's actually not a directive. Please, post about nice things.

I'm the one who just posted in my writerly capacity (as robin_riopelle) about shitty dealings.

Pre-order my novel

Oct. 11th, 2012 | 06:09 pm

You know, I'm actually unsure what punctuation to use in the subject line. I wanted to use a question mark, except that was way too Canadian, and then I wanted to use an exclamation mark but that seemed too enthusiastic (heaven forbid I would be enthusiastic about...my own writing). And then there was the period, but that seemed...cheeky.

So, therefore, none.

But if you want to pre-order my motherfuckin' book? Oh, yeah. Go here:  http://www.amazon.com/Dead-Roads-Robin-Riopelle/dp/1597804630

Cute, yet deadly

Sep. 16th, 2012 | 01:14 pm

shoofus sent me a panda! Thanks, Shoofus!

This is a ridiculously cute panda, but OMFG, look at the claws on this thing. Now koalas are stinky and mean, and monkey throw poo, and I guess...pandas will eviserate you, given half a chance.

Book Trailer Redux

Sep. 15th, 2012 | 11:24 am

Just in case you're following me here at Big Pink and not at Robin Riopelle, I just put out a (rather pathetic) call for halp.

There, I said/asked/pleaded:
"Anyone ever made a book trailer? Like a movie trailer, except for a book? Anyone want to try? I know that there are exceptionally talented vidders out there and I think that this would be right up their alley. I have no money, only glory. Well, if I do have money, it's out of my own pocket, so let me know.

Feel free to pass along to any vid-making friends out there!"

Many thanks!
